It is September 1st and we are in the midst of the 2015 Harvest. The weather is perfect (for harvest time – not for California’s water situation), and we have been at it full bore for over two weeks. The good news is the quality of the grapes appears excellent; winemaker Evelyn White is especially pleased with this year’s Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The downside is the quantity of this year’s harvest is down as much as 30% compared to the two bumper crops which preceded it. Chalk up another singular vintage; we have yet to have had a “normal” harvest in our 33 years in the business.
The cellar crew are not the only ones in high gear. Last weekend, we had our biggest concert ever with the David Luning Band. This weekend is Sonoma County’s premier wine event – Wine Country Weekend. On Friday evening, we will pour at the Sonoma Starlight Tasting, to be held at the Francis Ford Coppola Winery in Geyserville. The next day, Saturday, September 5th, we will be at the Macmurray Ranch Estate Vineyards in Healdsburg for the Taste of Sonoma wine and food affair. Since we have no “off” button we round out our summer concert series with Annie Sampson and Her Band on Sunday, September 6th. Meanwhile, the grapes do not stop coming to the winery.
So don’t be bashful – join in the madness that this time of year brings. Harvest time in wine country, where a good time is had by all!
Cheers,
