The Waiting Game

Fine summer weather has been the rule for the past several weeks, but the damage may have already been done. Late rains during flowering caused shattering in many vineyards, and growers are predicting reduced crops this harvest season. But predicting crop size and quality is a notoriously difficult proposition, so we shall wait and see. In the meantime, bottling for our custom crush clients is keeping us busy.

Winemaker Evelyn spent a warm and busy day in Sacramento recently, pouring our GOLD MEDAL winners – 2007 Mendocino Ridge Pinot Noir Garagistes and 2008 Russian River Valley Chardonnay Garagistes – at the California State Fair. I spent a few days in the Southern California market, and was quite pleased with the progress achieved by our newest sales rep – Mosha Rastgar. Our team of Mosha, Diana and Clayton are creating a market unmatched anywhere.

Work is continuing on our new picnic and event center. The area behind the Tasting Room is being transformed into a multiuse playground. The architectural firm of Tierney – Conner Design is creating areas for dining, petanque, music, bonfires and a whole lot more. The spot will be ready by midmonth, and we are planning an event in conjunction with the Tasting Room for mid September. Will keep you posted.

With summer at its height there is much to do in Sonoma County. Live music in an outdoor setting is a daily occurrence. The Russian River is full of kayakers, the roads host thousands of bicyclists, and tourists arrive from all over the world. What’s the draw? It’s the wine. Visit our Tasting Room and see why the Russian River Valley is one on the Wonders of the World.

Cheers,
