Another Set of Challenges

Springtime is upon us, with its warm temperatures, cooling breezes, and still green hillsides. However, not all is rosy in wine country. Recent frosts affected vineyards throughout the state, with spotty damage in most wine regions, including the Russian River Valley. The overall feeling is that we are in for a third straight year of light harvests, putting pressure on availability and pricing. And then there is the fire season, inflation…We did not get into this business for its simplicity.

Taft Street continues to wow wine critics in local and national competitions. In the recent North Coast Wine Challenge our 2019 Zachary Hill Pinot Noir was awarded a DOUBLE GOLD MEDAL and BEST OF CLASS; Taft Street’s 2019 Catie’s Corner Russian River Valley Chardonnay won a GOLD MEDAL; while our 2021 Russian River Valley Rose of Pinot Noir and our 2021 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc each won a SILVER MEDAL. Congratulations to Melissa and her winemaking team.

May is always a busy month at Taft Street. This Sunday is Mothers’ Day – the perfect time to sip our 2021 Russian River Valley Rose of Pinot Noir. Members of the President’s Club are reserving the weekend of May 14-15 for the annual Spring Club Party. Per usual, quality wine and music will be in abundance. Members will either pick up their wine allotment or have it shipped to them during the month. In June we will celebrate the postponed 40th anniversary party.

Mike and Jake have spent hours tidying up the picnic area for the summer season. It has never looked better; so, gather some tasty morsels and enjoy the wonders of spring in the Russian River Valley. It is always wise to call ahead.

Cheers,

Mike Tierney
