Springtime at Taft Street

Skies are blue, temperatures are in the high 70’s, the days are getting longer, bud break has begun in the vineyards, Covid-19 restrictions are lightening up while vaccinations are increasing. Life in definitely getting better; let’s hope it continues.

In the cellar Melissa and crew have begun the springtime bottling program while we figure out our upcoming harvest needs. Mike Martini will finalize this year’s grape contracts in the weeks ahead. Over the past month or so we have been critically examining our wines with our new consulting oenologist, Jeff McBride. Jeff has agreed to work with Melissa and the winery staff to clarify and fine tune our wine portfolio. Jeff brings with him an exalted reputation and has held executive positions with a virtual who’s who in the wine world, including Stags’ Leap, Kenwood, Dry Creek, Benziger, Ste. Michelle and others. Welcome aboard Jeff!

The big news in the Tasting Room is the addition of Brady Patrick Callagy to the world. On March 19 Kaitlyn gave birth to this 7lbs 8oz wonder, her 3rd child. Both mother and son are

doing splendidly. Back in the Tasting Room we continue to draw strong crowds, and it appears at least modified indoor tasting will be in the works shortly.

The 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition announced its results earlier this month and we are happy to report the Taft Street 2018 Alexander Valley Merlot won a GOLD MEDAL, while our 2018 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir Garagistes also won a GOLD MEDAL. Congratulations Melissa and crew.

It’s time to start thinking about a little enjoyment. Get vaccinated, wear a mask, be safe, and enjoy a glass of Taft Street wine with family and friends (outdoors if possible).

See you in person soon!

Cheers,

Mike Tierney
President, Taft Street Winery
