A Little Street Music – May Recap

What a great way to kick off “A Little Street Music” at Taft Street Winery. Bottleshock packed the house last Sunday afternoon and we found out that our new patio easily accommodates 200 people.  Summer has definitely arrived, providing a great afternoon with great Sonoma County weather, music, and wine.

Here are just a few of the photos taken that afternoon.

Stay tuned, on June 24, we welcome Blue & Lonesome, a traditional bluegrass band consists of Ed Neff, Mike Wilhoyte, Larry Cohea, Paul Shelasky and Jeff King. Blue & Lonesome has captured the traditional sound of bluegrass music, incorporating the experience and talents of five of the top traditional players in the business today.

Help us make A Little Street Music a summer tradition. Bring a picnic and we’ll supply the wine. Enjoy the summer – Taft Street Style.

The official kick off to summer is this weekend.  Memorial Day means it’s time to bust out the barbecue, pack a picnic and break out a bottle! With the switch of seasons, many people are taking a walk on the lighter side, and nothing quenches your thirst for summer like a refreshing bottle of white wine!

SCHEDULE OF ACTS

May 27, 2012 – Bottle Shock: Bottle Shock produces an original sound best described as toe tappin’ music for the mind, body and soul. With a style firmly based in American roots music the band has its own little sound going on. Come have a look and a listen; it won’t take long for you to become SHOCKED!

June 24, 2012 – Blue & Lonesome: This traditional bluegrass band consists of Ed Neff, Mike Wilhoyte, Larry Cohea, Paul Shelasky and Jeff King. Blue & Lonesome has captured the traditional sound of bluegrass music, incorporating the experience and talents of five of the top traditional players in the business today.

July 29,1012 – The Smilin’ Iguanas: The Smilin’ Iguanas feature a collaboration of three West Sonoma County songwriters, with unique commentaries on life and relationships. The wide ranging songs are delivered with wry humor, strong vocals, and the spirited instrumental interplay of the five piece ensemble.

August 26, 2012 – The Rhythm Rangers: The Rhythm Rangers is a kickass Sonoma County band made up of great players and nice fellas. The Rangers pull from the great Americana songbook, mixing Bob Willis – style western swing with alt – country sounds reminiscent of Merle Haggard, and finishing off with the rockin’ blues in the style made famous by blues great Willie Dixon.

MUSINGS WHILE IN TRANSIT

I am sitting in the Atlantic Airport, waiting for my connecting flight to San Francisco. For the past three days I have toured the west coast of Florida, visiting Total Wine & More stores and conducting tastings in Orlando, Tampa, St Petersburg, Sarasota, Ft Myers and Naples. A grueling schedule, but the response to our wines was heartening, and the perfect weather was very welcome. A couple of highlights for me included seeing the after church crowd descend on the Naples store; and bumping into an old friend who once owned a wine shop in Sag Harbor in New York and was now working in Sarasota.

The harvest is over and a calm of sorts has returned to the winery. The bottling line is open for business, however; so there is always plenty to do.

We had a great time at the recent Russian River Wine Road Wine and Food Affair, held the weekend of November 4th and 5th. We had our biggest crowds ever, with over 180 visitors on Sunday. I made and smoked 40 pounds of sausage (over 30 feet!) to pair with our 2007 Russian River Valley Zinfandel Cobblestone Vineyard and our 2006 Dry Creek Valley Syrah St Emydius Acres. Yum!

Later this week it’s off to Phoenix, where we will visit the Total Wine & More stores in the area, pouring our wines and spreading the Taft Street word. The fun just never ends.

With Thanksgiving coming up fast, time is running out on our Turkey Day Special. The focus will be on our 2008 Mendocino Gewurztraminer and the 2008 Russian River Valley Riesling – both GOLD MEDAL winners. Buy six and pay for five (yes, you can mix and match). We pay the shipping! So give Kaitlyn a call (800) 334-TAFT and get your Thanksgiving Beverages.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
